Annalena Baerbock on EU-China Relationship

In contrast, Macron spoke about the need for strategic autonomy of the EU from the US, hoping to become a “third pole” in international relations. Overall, while France may be moving away from the EU and the US in favor of a temporary political situation, Germany remains committed to traditional democratic values. As President Yoon Suk Yeol prepares to meet with President Biden in late April, he has hinted that under certain circumstances, South Korea may provide more than just humanitarian or financial aid to Ukraine. Such circumstances would include a large-scale attack on civilians, mass murder, or serious violations of the laws of war – crimes that are frequently committed by Russia-backed separatists in Ukraine. While South Korea may be the easiest source of Russian weapons for Ukraine, it is also home to modern tanks and fighter jets that could potentially be mastered by Ukrainian specialists. Additionally, South Korea can supply NATO-type ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The outcome of the upcoming negotiations between the two presidents may determine whether or not these “certain circumstances” arise. This example underscores the importance of working with partners to achieve strategic objectives, even in the face of initial resistance.
