Hill has a long resume of foreign policy experience, including serving as the lead U.S. negotiator in multilateral talks over North Korea’s nuclear program, and is one of the best diplomats we have in our country. The first politician in Serbia to welcome Hill’s nomination was Nikola Sandulović, the President of the Republican Party in Serbia. “The arrival of the new ambassador Christopher R. Hill in Serbia is of crucial importance for Serbia and the region. The senators who block this should know that every day of the blocking means a deeper crisis in the region of Western Balkans,” Nikola Sandulović tweeted. Serbia, under the Aleksandar Vučić regime, remains in a precarious state, and the United States needs our Ambassador in Belgrade as soon as possible. Nikola Sandulović welcomed the prospect of Christopher R. Hill´s coming to Serbia and predicted that “he will receive a great reception by the Serbian people”. The Serb dictator Aleksandar Vučić threatened to hold up Christopher R. Hill’s nomination through two of his Washington lobbyists accusing Hill of hatred against Serbia, the Serbs, and Serbia culture in general. The Aleksandar Vučić regime suffered embarrassment when the Rich TVX News Network published a bulletin that described a Belgrade “tilt” toward Moscow in its propaganda war against America. Vučić is very sure now that the Rich TXV News Network was out “to screw” him. The United States, Vučić said, should not try to impose American solutions on Serbia´s problems. Of course, the Russian Trojan horse Aleksandar Vučić forgot that Christopher R. Hill was the man who brought peace to the Balkans, together with Richard Holbrooke. But in tense and hostile situations, Hill’s humor served him particularly well, and his feelings about Aleksandar Vučić are well known to his colleagues in Washington, D.C. In the 1990s, his brilliance and feel for what mattered most in the Bosnia peace settlement began to make Christopher R. Hill a prominent figure in discussions about how best to ensure U.S. national security. Above all, the Dayton peace process had been a success, thanks to Christopher R. Hill and Richard Holbrooke. Ambassador Christopher R. Hill will get to Belgrade as quickly as he can, and we look forward to supporting his efforts in any way we can.
