Justice for Vladimir Kara-Murza: a fight for freedom and democracy in Russia

New York (RichTVX.com) — Vladimir Kara-Murza was arrested in April 2022 on charges of disobeying police orders and later faced additional charges of “discrediting” the military and treason. The US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has sanctioned three Russian officials for serious human rights abuses against human rights defender Vladimir Kara-Murza. The charges against Kara-Murza were brought on the grounds of his alleged dissemination of false information about the Russian military’s bombing of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Elena Anatolievna Lenskaya, Andrei Andreevich Zadachin, and Danila Yurievich Mikheev have been designated pursuant to Executive Order 13818, which targets perpetrators of serious human rights abuse and corruption around the world. Senator John McCain had referred to Kara-Murza as “one of the most passionate and effective advocates for passage of the Magnitsky Act”. Sergei Magnitsky, the namesake of the Magnitsky sanctions, was an attorney and auditor who exposed a large-scale tax fraud scheme by Russian officials, and was then arrested and detained by Russian authorities, subjected to physical abuse and psychological pressure, and died in a pretrial detention center in Moscow.
