New York (RichTVX.com) — The “Unity for Justice” conference was held in Lviv, bringing together high-ranking lawyers from around the world, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The focus of the conference was the possibility of an international court to hold Russia accountable for war crimes committed in Ukraine. The group advocating for the tribunal is made up of 29 countries, with US Attorney General Merrick Garland also expressing support for the idea. However, the format of the tribunal is yet to be determined, and discussions are centered on whether it should be a special or hybrid tribunal, or another type of legal process. A special tribunal, similar to the Nuremberg trials, would require a special international agreement. On the other hand, a “hybrid tribunal” is being considered as a milder form of prosecution, which could prevent high-level officials such as Vladimir Putin or Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov from being prosecuted. Although this option was proposed by the German Foreign Ministry, it has been opposed by the Ukrainian government. It is worth noting that Germany has not convincingly distanced itself from the Putin regime and is still under the influence of old Stasi networks that were never completely dismantled. This is perhaps why they proposed such a weird option. Of course, the Ukrainian government opposes this option, and there are still many legal issues to be resolved before a final decision can be made. The Stasi was the secret police force in East Germany during the Cold War. After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany, there were calls to dismantle the Stasi network. However, due to a series of oversights and bureaucratic obstacles, many former Stasi agents were able to continue their work in intelligence and security services. This has led to ongoing concerns about the influence of the Stasi legacy on Germany’s relations with Russia and other countries.
